On the other hand, media room furniture (as the name itself suggests) is something that is built specifically for the home theater. Because it just stands there, unsecured, in the darkened room. Then again, if you do manage to put a stand next to the sofa, the person who sits in the middle starts reaching out every 15 seconds over your lap to grab some popcorn or a drink or whatever, and next thing you know, someone knocks over their drink in an attempt to find it with their hands. Oftentimes sofa arms are thick and that makes it hard for you to place a stand of a coffee table next to it.
You start looking for a good spot to place your remote, or drinks, or snacks. And that's where the downside with sofas begin.
